Title:Between consumers and pirates:
The MPAA and the battle against film piracy
Abstract:The Motion Picture Association of America has begun to file lawsuits against
individuals who have downloaded films off the Internet illegally. This is part of a
large effort to curb this online piracy, and recover what they view as revenue
lost to these pirates. The question is, is their lost profits really the fault of the
downloaders or is there other factors involved? The MPAA has a history of
protecting its copyright interest, and of dealing with pirates. The threat of
traditional piracy is larger then the relatively new threat of digital piracy.

Piracy?
Abstract:This study is being conducted to examine the relationship between the
effectiveness of the Motion Picture Association of America’s legal actions and
the consumers’ individual use. There is major concern about the piracy of
copyrighted works and how the film industry’s profitability is adversely affected.
The study is comprised of the opinions of consumers who are familiar with the
MPAA’s efforts to derail movie piracy. The researchers questioned whether or
not consumers thought that the labors of the MPAA are warranted.
